Vacant lot approved for hotel development

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- An empty lot on the South Island highway has been approved for the development of a hotel.

At the July 16th meeting, city council voted with no opposition to an application for rezoning, which will allow future development of a hotel at 220 S.Island Highway.

According to a press release from the city, a preliminary geotechnical report concluded that the land is safe for development, but would require confirmation of bank stability and a traffic impact assessment.

The City’s Sustainable Official Community Plan aims to support new commercial developments along the waterfront highway and to serve the tourism industry. A report from August 2017 indicated that Campbell River had among the highest hotel occupancy in British Columbia.
