CAMPBELL RIVER CRIME STATS DROP

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- The city’s looking better than 2016 as far as crime statistics go.

According to the recently released Crime Severity Index (CSI), Campbell River’s ranking dropped from 102.17 to 88.53 for overall crime severity.

Non violent crimes went down from 107.63 in 2016 to 90.03 in 2017, while violent crimes only saw a small decrease, from 86.31 to 83.79.

Cpl. Ron Vlooswyk of the Campbell River RCMP said the 13.9% in overall crime severity drop was a really good sign.

“There are so many variables that would decrease those numbers, but certainly projects that we run, initiatives that we do, all of that stuff plays a part in reducing crime,” he said.

“We are always working towards a decrease over the years.”
