Challenge puts the pedal to the scrap metal, raises $10,000

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C- The 2018 Scrap Metal Challenge raised $10,000.

The challenge, put on by the The Campbell River Hospital Foundation, collected donations through June and July.

The business challenge winner, for the second year in a row, was Marine Harvest Canada, donating $2, 223.00 worth of metal.

Donations from the public, from a bin on Dogwood Street and at ABC Recycling totaled $2,732.

According to the hospital foundation, it was a “tight race”. T-Mar Industries Ltd., Finning Canada, Tyee Chevrolet Buick GMC, Wayne’s Propane, Kal Tire, Campbell River Hyundai, Island Health and Clearview Grinding were among the companies thanked for their participation.

Money raised from this event will be going towards a ‘Hematology Slide Review System’ for the Lab at the hospital. This piece of equipment performs automated digital microscopy morphology analysis and has software applications, designed for remote access, competency testing and education. One of the best parts of this system is that it allows our lab the ability to connect with and support other sites through digital technology.
