Incentives for businesses working to improve their energy efficiency

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – B.C. Hydro and FortisBC are offering resources and incentives for businesses looking to upgrade their buildings and equipment to improve energy efficiency.

According to a release, B.C. Hydro has the Business Energy Saving Incentives program, where B.C. Hydro customers can receive rebates covering up to 75 per cent of the cost for retrofit projects. For businesses in need of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) or refrigeration energy efficiency upgrade, this program will benefit them.

FortisBC provides rebates for business owners upgrading to high-efficiency products like kitchen equipment, boilers and water heaters. Industrial customers adding insulation to pipes and hot water tanks can receive rebates.

“With BC Hydro and Fortis BC both offering programs for businesses of all different sizes become more energy efficient, these incentives are good for the environment and will help reduce business utility bills,” said Amber Zirnhelt, the city’s manager of long range planning and sustainability.

The city is aiming to retrofit two per cent of existing buildings annually to improve energy efficiency by 2020.
