Stolen stroller prompts community to pull together

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – A local mother’s post about her 1-year-old’s stolen stroller has prompted a heartwarming response from the town.

Campbell River resident Bailey Adams went to the neighbourhood park with her sons on Friday night, where she left the stroller tied at the shared garage by the North Island Hospital, something she has always done. When she came back to the spot with her children, the stroller was gone.

When she came back home, she put up a post on social media calling out whoever stole the stroller. That was when the outpouring of positive messages came in.

“Quite a few different people popped up and were offering to pitch in money to buy a new one, but it’s not really my thing to accept,” Adams said. Another Campbell River resident, Sarah Rothwell, offered to give her a stroller she was no longer using.

“I just felt bad for her… it was a mom’s point of view for another mom. I just went ‘now you’re stuck without a stroller’,” Rothwell said.

Even though it was a frustrating experience, Adams said it was touching to see so many good comments.

“Everyone just came together. It made me feel hopeful, it made me proud of the people that live in this town, especially when again, there’s a lot of negative things that go on.”
