Surrey man arrested in Campbell River

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – A young man from Surrey, B.C. has been arrested and charged for multiple offences.

According to a release from the RCMP, 20-year-old Simran Gill has been charged for dangerous operation of a vehicle in order to evade police, failing to stop at an accident with another vehicle, and resisting arrest.

On Tuesday afternoon, officers with the Campbell River RCMP Street Crime Unit moved to arrest the driver of a vehicle for drug trafficking offences, who then fled from the police, hitting a police cruiser and an unoccupied travel trailer on the 900 block of Island Highway.

Residents reported seeing him driving dangerously southbound on the highway.

The investigation for drug trafficking is ongoing, and charges are still pending.

“The real time phone calls from the public were tremendous and ultimately led the police to the suspect.” Cpl. Ron Vlooswyk wrote in the news release.  He said general duty officers, police dog services, as well as traffic services also helped locate Gill.

Vlooswyk added that the RCMP is encouraging people to report crimes they see happening to police, or to the Crime Stoppers to give anonymous tips.
