City of Campbell River hosting open house for future sea level rise planning

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – The city is inviting residents to learn about the effects of a future sea level rise.

The city is studying anticipated effects of sea level rise and possible changes to shorelines as a part of a multi-year planning initiative. According to a release from the city, technical assessments of the shorelines will determine risks from sea level rise in combination with extreme weather events, which will help identify potential adaptation measures.

“We’re inviting people to be part of the discussion to help Campbell River adapt to our changing climate by sharing what’s most important to them as we plan for the future,” wrote Amber Zirnhelt, the city’s manager of long range planning and sustainability. She added city officials will give updates on their study and share details of the city’s plans.

There will be two open houses, but each one will share the exact same information. The different dates are to allow as many people as possible to attend.

  • November 28th, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. – Anchor Inn (261 Island Hwy)
  • November 29th 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. – Willow Point Hall (2165 S Island Hwy)

Those unable to attend can find out more or share their ideas by emailing [email protected] or calling 250-286-5726.
