UPDATE: Ferry service now back on schedule

UPDATE: As of 5:45 p.m., the Powell River Queen is back in service, and sailings between Campbell River and Quadra Island are on schedule. For the full listing, visit B.C. Ferries.

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – B.C. Ferries cancelled a roundtrip sailing from Campbell River to Quadra Island due to high winds.

The cancelled sailings were for 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., but it might go on for a bit longer.

B.C. Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall said in addition to high winds, the Powell River Queen is staying docked until the weather calms down because it is currently sailing on only three of its right angle drive units, instead of the usual four.

“Under normal weather conditions, we can sail on three right angle drives, but in high winds we need to sail on four,” said Marshall.

She added that an update will be sent out once the Powell River Queen is ready to sail again.
