Ministry of Education launches new anti-bullying site

VICTORIA, B.C. – A new anti-bullying website is now live.

erase (expect respect & a safe education) is a provincial strategy for creating safe, inclusive and welcoming school cultures that will support student learning. The website is designed as a place for students and educators to report incidents, as well as a hub of information.

According to a release from School District 72, the website was created after extensive consultation with students, parents, and educators.

The erase strategy was first introduced in 2012, and has since provided anti-bullying training for educators, updated school codes of conduct to be inclusive of SOGI and cyberbullying, and helped develop provincial guidelines for for threat assessments, among other things.

Besides an updated website where students and educators can report incidents, the ministry has also updated the erase strategy to accommodate changes in the challenges youth face.

The updated erase strategy now aims to improve information sharing between systems, increase student safety, and integrate mental health and SOGI.

The new website now has an expanded Get Help section, and now includes more information and resources on topics such as online safety, mental health, well-being, bullying and violence, substance use, and SOGI. To learn more about erase, visit the website here.
