Local company applauds community for helping elderly woman in need

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Shelley Humble said she is proud of Campbell River for stepping up to help those in need.

Humble co-owns a new local business called Gateway Personal Concierge Services, a firm that specializes in helping individuals and business with moves, organizing, special event planning, and even errands.

Humble said she received a call from an elderly lady who needed to move out of the house she was renting by Friday.

“I walked in, and nothing was done. Nothing was packed. She’s 74 and disabled, and she had no family. I think when a lot of people get older, they just get overwhelmed,” said Humble. She said it was clear right away that they needed more bodies to help pack and move the lady and her belongings.

She said Campbell River residents responded to her call for help right away. She added that it was impressive and touching how so many people came to the elderly woman’s aid.

“People offered their time, someone offered to clean the place after… people stepping up to help pack. We got her a locker to store her things until she could get an apartment.”

Humble added that residents helped the lady with her taxes and paperwork for her change of address, the things that she said overwhelmed the woman.

“It was just a situation that we came upon and not just because it’s Christmas or anything, but any decent human has to step up and help. This was a situation where we had to put the money aside and just do the service.”
