BC Minister weighs in on future of agriculture

You might not think “high-tech” when you hear the word agriculture. But according to BC’s Minister of Agriculture, Norm Letnick, the sector’s more high tech than you’d think.

He was at the Vancouver Island Agriculture Show this weekend in Courtenay. Goat News was also in attendance and had the chance to catch up with the minister.

He weighs in on the future of the industry, and how technology plays a role in the field.

He adds that if you don’t know how to use high tech, you’re really at a competitive disadvantage.

He says that the agriculture sector grows at about 3.5% per year, with more younger workers coming on board to work in the industry. Several farming operations from all over the North Island attended the weekend agriculture show.
