CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Campbell River has been chosen as one of three communities to take part in an energy-based pilot program.
The city will participate in the development of the Smart Energy Communities Scorecard, along with Beaconsfield, Quebec and Markham, Ontario.
QUEST and Pollution Probe made the announcement earlier today.
QUEST is a national non-government organization that works to integrate community-scale energy systems in communities across Canada.
Pollution Probe is an environmental non-government organization that strives to reduce pollution across the country.
The Smart Energy Communities Scorecard evaluates how the policies of municipalities are advancing the “Smart Energy Communities” approach.
These communities improve energy use, cut costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The scorecard will track the progress of the municipalities involved.
The three municipalities join six other areas that have taken part in the pilot program since March.
“Campbell River is committed to demonstrating leadership on climate action and as part of implementing our Community Energy and Emissions Plan we are working to encourage economic development in the building, energy retrofit and renewable energy sectors,” said Campbell River mayor Andy Adams, in a release from QUEST Canada.
“The Smart Energy Communities scorecard initiative will provide a valuable tool for communities across the country to measure progress on implementing our energy and emissions plans, and Campbell River is pleased to be selected to participate in this innovative national initiative.”
