Campbell River wins fifth MarCom gold for watershed signs

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Campbell River won a fifth MarCom award.

This time, it was for the city’s information signs at the intersection of Highway 28 and Brewster Lake Road, at the entrance of McIvor Lake Park on Highway 28 and halfway between Brewster Lake Road and the entrance to McIvor Lake Park.

According to a release, the city’s water department, led by supervisor Nathalie Viau, worked with Epic Design to create signs that stand out to drivers. The signs are also designed and treated to withstand various weather conditions. The surface has anti-graffiti coating.

“These signs are located in the watershed to provide a visual reminder about the importance of protecting the community’s drinking water source,” said Drew Hadfield, the city’s director of operations.

“Keeping pollution out of the watershed maintains the high quality of the water that feeds into the City’s supply system – and that helps keep down the cost of disinfecting water before it’s distributed throughout the community.”

The release also stated that in 2011, the City of Campbell River won a MarCom gold award for the communications program that kept the city informed about Highway 19A and airport upgrade projects.

In 2014, Campbell River once again won an award for the St. Ann’s block upgrade communications program.

The city won another MarCom gold award for eye-catching watering restriction billboards in 2015. Campbell River won its fourth MarCom award for the utility kiosk wrap located at Hilchey and Dogwood.

The MarCom award provides international recognition for exceeding high standards in industry norms.

Judges are industry professionals. They look for companies and individuals whose talents exceed a high standard of excellence, and who produce work that serve as an industry benchmark.
