CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Drivers are still trying to get through barricaded areas, despite warnings from the city.
City crews put barricades around 16th Ave between Ironwood and Maple Streets. Nunns Creek had flooded over and into the street due to the heavy rains.
According to the City of Campbell River’s roads supervisor Jon Isfeld, residents would move the barricades and drive through the flooded areas.
Isfeld said the barricades are there for a reason: to protect residents. He said people should not remove the barricades and drive through.
“We’re trying to keep people out of these roads. They’re flooded, it’s not safe. People in small cars keep going through, they get stuck, they wreck their engines,” Isfeld said.
“It’s for the public’s protection.”
Besides 16th Ave between Ironwood and Maple, Cedar and 14th as well as Shoppers Row right in front of Spirit Square are experiencing flooding and are blocked off.
Isfeld said flaggers had been sent down to the areas to help monitor and reroute traffic.
