Local mother receives a surprise Christmas present

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Candace Cairncross found a pleasant surprise in her daughter’s backpack on Friday night.

Cairncross said it was a couple of hours after she picked her daughter up from daycare that she checked her backpack.

In it, she found a Christmas card addressed to her. She said there was no signature, just a holiday greeting and a cash donation.

She said she has no idea who the gift is from.

“I don’t know if it’s people who work there or the moms that go there – I have no idea. I just don’t know specifically who it was,” Cairncross said.

Cairncross said it was amazing and that she is very grateful for the gift, especially during the holiday season.

“This time two years ago, I was one of the people in the position to do that (give gifts) for others… you don’t always get to see the full circle sometimes, but yeah it’s always good to put stuff out there and you never know when it’ll come back to you.”

Cairncross added she will be paying the act of kindness forward.

“Even if it’s just buying the person behind you a coffee… it’s little things that make a huge difference.”
