RCMP asking for assistance after bike was stolen during break and enter

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – A local business along South Island Highway was broken into, and a bicycle stolen.

According to a release from Campbell River Crime Stoppers, the bike is a specialized 29-inch BMX dirt jumper. The RETRO reCYCLE was broken into and the bike stolen on December 30th.

Owner Chris Wilson said that between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the 30th, someone had come to his shop and taken apart the locking mechanism from the garage door.

He said nothing else was stolen.

The stolen dirt jumper is custom-made is the only one of its kind, as are all the other bicycles in the shop. RETRO reCYCLE rebuilds, repairs, and maintains bicycles. The store also reuses old bikes.

“It was a specific bike that went missing… there were only a certain amount of people looking at that bicycle or knew it was here, so we can narrow down our search because we have a good idea of where to start.”

We have reached out to the RCMP, but they have not responded to our request for comment yet.

Anyone with information on the who may have the bicycle or who may have details on the incident are encouraged to call the RCMP (250-286-06221) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
