First phase of sewer upgrades along Highway 19A wrap up

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Construction along Highway 19A for a new sewer line is finished.

The upgrades are part of the City of Campbell River’s three-year waterfront project.

Construction on phase one of the waterfront sewer project began in July at the Maritime Heritage Centre. From there, crews moved south, with the final work finishing at 1st Avenue.

According to a release from the city, final clean up is being done now.

Currently, there are temporary paving patches along the route. The release also stated final paving along the route will be done when warmer spring weather comes.

The new sewer infrastructure is designed to accommodate the growing population in Campbell River, especially in the Willow Point and Jubilee Heights areas.

Phase two of the sewer project will start this year. This will extend the sewer line from 1st Avenue to near the Big Rock Boat Ramp. Phase two was originally planned to start in 2020, but is now moved forward to minimize cumulative impact of work for 2020.
