City of Campbell River considering selling lane to connect two properties

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – The city may sell the lane on Perth Road to connect two adjacent properties in the area.

City council members gave a first and second reading to a bylaw that would close the lane and allow the city to sell it.

The property owner of 1640 Perth Road will then be able to buy the lane to consolidate the area for their property. Once the lane is sold, it will be closed to all traffic.

The City of Campbell River sent a request to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for comment on the proposed closure of the lane. A ministry official confirmed the provincial government didn’t have objections to the road closure.

The provincial government will have to give official approval of the lane closure due to its proximity to the highway. City staff expect to bring the bylaw back for a third reading and adoption in the next few weeks.

The city will also maintain a right to access water lines in the area, as well as provide pedestrian access at the location if needed.
