Paving work along Highway 19A to start on April 23rd

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Paving along Highway 19A will be replaced soon.

The temporary paving between the Maritime Heritage Centre and 1st Ave will be replaced starting on April 23rd.

According to a release from the city, the whole width of the road will be repaved. The city is advising travellers to use alternative routes to avoid any delays.

There will be a single-lane closure, with alternating traffic during work hours for about two weeks after the Easter weekend.

Drivers should expect rough, uneven surfaces and are reminded to drive slowly and cautiously. Motorcyclists should be aware that there will be a grooved and uneven surface until paving is completed.

Crews will begin the work by grinding about two inches off of the existing asphalt before repaving.

The work is weather dependent.

The repaving wraps up the first phase of 2018’s waterfront sewer work. In 2019, the installation of a newer, larger pipe will continue from 1st Ave to near the Big Rock Boat Ramp.

Underground services upgrades will be happening from Rockland Road north to the boat ramp. This work will begin in May and June, and more information will be shared as details are confirmed.
