Walk Away From Racism in Campbell River

Members of the Campbell River community got together on Saturday to take part in the Walk From Racism event.

It came hot off the heels of the demolition of the former St. Michael’s residential school in Alert Bay.

Mayor Andy Adams was in attendance, and he touches on his thoughts regarding the former residential school, saying his previous employment with the Vancouver Island Health Authority would bring him to the Alert Bay area.

North Island NDP MLA Claire Trevena was also in attendance.

She says Canada’s culture is very diverse.

Adams added that the event was an occasion to recognize that equal opportunity should exist for everyone.

This past weekend’s Walk From Racism was the 19th incarnation of the annual event.
