School board trustees will receive pay increase for 2019/2020

CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – School District 72’s board will be getting a pay hike.

Starting on July 1st, there will be a change in remuneration for the chair, the vice-chair, and the trustees, which will be in time for the 2019/2020 school year.

According to a release from the school district, the chair will receive a $468 annual salary increase, $790 for the vice-chair, and $716 for the trustees.

This means that the board’s chair will now earn $15, 156, the vice-chair $13, 889, and the trustees $12, 853.

Trustees voted to accept the increase.

The pay increase comes after an independent analysis of other school districts on the island and across the province.

Black Press has reported that the median pay across island school districts is $15, 155 for the chair, $13, 889 for the vice-chair, and $12, 852. The pay increase for SD 72’s board is in line with the island median.
