Four pawnshop employees facing charges after investigation

Employees at two local pawn shops in Campbell River are facing charges after an undercover investigation by RCMP.

RCMP say it conducted an undercover operation involving stolen property in December 2018, which looked at practices of local area Pawn Shops and Second-Hand stores.

It confirms that the investigation has led to the arrest of four pawn shop employees from two different stores in Campbell River.

All four are accused of Attempt to Possess Stolen Property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The names of the accused and specific stores are not being given at this time as charges have not been sworn.

Constable Maury Tyre says it’s sad to see local businesses be a part of crime in the community.

“Purchasing these stolen goods supports the ongoing thefts in our community.”

“Finding out that this purchasing may have been conducted by legitimate businesses in the community is quite disappointing,” Tyre added.

A court date has been set for August 26th in Campbell River.
