Comox Valley’s first-ever recreational pot store opens its doors

A new era has begun in the Comox Valley.

City Cannabis Co. is the first recreational cannabis story in the valley to open its doors.

The store at the Comox Mall celebrated its grand opening earlier this morning.

It’s been months in the making.

City Cannabis got its building permit in June after receiving provincial and municipal blessing in March.

The company’s CEO Kristian Wetulani said it’s been a long time coming.

“We’re really excited,” Wetulani said. “We can’t wait to see people’s reaction when they come into the store and see if they like what we’ve done. We have very well-trained staff, very knowledgeable, and we’re excited to spread that knowledge.”

Wetulani said all the proper paperwork and preparation needed to be in place before opening day.

“We’re really excited to be able to provide this service to the (Town) of Comox and some of the delays are just some of the regular applicational delays that I can’t get into specifics on, and just getting enough staff, making sure the store looks great, first impressions are important to us,” he said.

“We want to make sure every attention to detail is to the max.”

City Cannabis is selling a wide range of products ranging from pre-rolls to cannabis, capsules and sprays and accessories. Edibles, vaporizers, and concentrates are expected to arrive in December.

The community has been supportive leading up to the big day, said Wetulani: “Everybody’s super excited that we’re opening. We’ve been getting a lot of people trying to get in (over) the last two weeks. So there seems like there’s been a lot of hype. We’re excited.”

City Cannabis will be open 10:00am to 10:00pm, seven days a week.

“We want people to be able to have access all day and all night,” he said.
