New SRD boardroom to provide better community access to meetings

The Strathcona Regional District has a new boardroom and main entrance.

And all of it is to invite the community to the board’s meetings.

The new boardroom is larger and has been moved from the third floor to the main floor. The new space is now more accessible and has more seating in the public gallery.

The SRD says there will be more upgrades soon, including audio-visual presentations and having the meetings livestreamed.

“I am delighted to officially open this space to our board and community members,” SRD chair Michele Babchuk said.

“Providing better access to board meetings for community members near and far is important to the board’s open governance principles.”

The new boardroom officially opened on Tuesday.

Building renovations included a new reception space and informal meeting area at the ground-level entrance.

Last year, the board bought the building, which made the expanded boardroom and new service areas possible.

The SRD says buying the property is a cost-effective way to provide more accessible space to meet its growing needs and better serve the district.

The SRD encourages community members to attend meetings. For an updated schedule, visit the SRD’s website
