Volunteers remind drivers to slow down in school zones

School’s back and drivers should remember to slow down.

Gordon Smith is with the Campbell River Citizens on Patrol. He says he and other volunteers will be setting up Speed Watch stations in school zones starting on September 3rd until September 10th.

Smith says they’re reminding drivers that now summer is ending, lower speed limits in school zones are now in effect. He adds drivers are being asked to be extra vigilant and to put phones away.

“Drivers need to be extra cautious at pedestrian crosswalks, be alert to children running out between parked cars and adhering to posted speed limits,” Campbell River COP president Dave Jackson said.

Smith adds that the public becomes more aware of their driving habits as they see volunteers monitoring speeds.

The Campbell River Citizens on Patrol work closely with the RCMP and ICBC to ensure the children and the general public are safe.
