Campbell River Volunteer Fair gets face LIFT

Volunteering is rewarding but many might not know where to start. That’s where the LIFT Festival comes in.

Hosted by Volunteer Campbell River, it takes various community organizations and non-profits so potential volunteers can meet with staff and see what they can do to help, gain experience and contribute to causes that help shape the community. .

The fair is now in its 9th year, but Volunteer Campbell River executive director Mary Catherine Williams says they’ve now renamed it to LIFT Festival.

“Volunteerism and non-profit agencies really help lift up our communities and they provide leadership, innovation, friendship and talent,” Williams said.

The LIFT Festival will be held at the Campbell River Community Centre from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on September 14th.

“We have about 34 agencies coming to the fair to talk about what they do and work (they have) for volunteers. People can visit with each agency and learn about the work being done and how the agency supports the community.”

Williams adds that a new addition to this year’s fair is a Kids’ Fest. She says parents who volunteer often have children who also volunteer. The Kids’ Fest is a way to include children, as well as to encourage other kids to get involved.

“We want to get kids involved as young as possible, so there’ll be some fun activities for children,” she said.

Some of the organizations coming to the fair include Habitat for Humanity, Campbell River Senior Peer Support, and the Campbell River Hospital Auxiliary among many others.

Campbell River Search and Rescue will also be at the fair for a live demonstration of essential skills. For more volunteering opportunities, visit the Volunteer Campbell River website.
