All invited to ALR meeting in Merville

Do you live on, or farm Agriculture Land Reserve land?

Do you have questions about the recent changes to the ALR?

Then a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture is for you.

The ministry is welcoming members of the ALR as well as Ministry of Agriculture staff to a public discussion at the Merville Hall on Thursday, Sept. 19.

It says they’ll be discussing recent and potential changes to support farming and protect the ALR.

The event runs from 10:00am to 2:30pm at the Merville Hall.

Because lunch is provided, you have to RSVP by noon on Monday, Sept. 16 to [email protected].

Courtenay-Comox Ronna-Rae Leonard said the ALR has undergone some legislative changes and new regulations have been put in place.

She added that the new regulations can be expected through this engagement process “to make sure we have a robust farming sector, that we have opportunities for new farmers, and for existing farmers to expand and grow their businesses.”

Everyone is invited, she noted.

“It benefits all British Columbians so everybody has an interest and everybody is certainly welcome to come and get clarifications around what the existing regulations are, and provide input to what they would like to see in the future, so that we have a very strong farming sector in British Columbia.”

Leonard said our strongest tool is the ALR.
