Alternatives for BC hydro

North Island MLA Claire Trevena is fighting for an alternative system for those who only rely on BC hydro for power.

The province has increased hydro to a two tier pricing, which the NDPs say is leaving people with extremely high bills, and some with the possibility of disconnecting.

Trevena says only if you have the opportunity to use natural gas, this is a good option. But this is not the case for most north islanders. A lot of people rely on electricity.

 

Sometimes Trevena says, homes are not properly insulated and people can’t afford doing renovations to save money. Therefore, they are left paying more and more.

Even though the two tier pricing is suppose to reduce consumption, this isn’t the best option for everyone.
