RCMP release name of man charged in Sunday’s police chase

A Campbell River man is facing multiple charges after a police chase that ended in a crash.

D’arcy Thompson’s charges include Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from Police. It began Sunday morning around 5:40am.

The RCMP responded to a report of a truck that had been stolen from a driveway. Officers were able to find the truck and pulled it over. During the stop the RCMP says the driver took off, hitting a police car.

A short chase then began which ended when the driver lost control and ended up hitting the building that houses Pair-A-Dice Games and other businesses on Dogwood Street. The RCMP says Thomspon was arrested immediately and remains in custody.

His next court date is October 7th.

“Thankfully, none of our officers suffered injuries in this serious incident,” Said RCMP spokesperson Cst Maury Tyre. “Flight from a traffic stop creates a very dangerous situation for both the officers and the public.”

Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to call the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
