NIC nursing students host all-candidates forum

NIC’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing students are hosting an all-candidates forum.

The forum is scheduled for October 16th. It will welcome the North Island-Powell River candidates.

The event is free and open to the public.

The students are hosting the forum as part of their engaging in leadership course.

Lydia Hardy is one of the event’s student organizers. She says they want to encourage people, especially students, to get involved in this year’s federal election.

“Students have a significant stake in the future of our country. This event will provide a platform to bring student voices forward to our candidates and present people with an opportunity to connect with their candidates and make an informed decision when voting,” Hardy said.

All seven candidates running in the North Island-Powell River riding will be presented. This includes NDP incumbent Rachel Blaney, the Green Party’s Mark de Bruijn, Conservative Shelley Downey, Marxist-Leninist Carla Neal, the People’s Party of Canada’s Brian Rundle, Liberal Peter Schwarzhoff and independent candidate Glen Staples.

“We’ve been speaking with students at NIC and gathering questions on the most popular topics we’re hearing about from them,” Hardy added.

Community members will also be able to submit questions on the night of the event.

There will also be a meet and greet with the candidates before the forum starts, starting at 6:00 pm.

The forum will start at 7:00 pm at the Stan Hagen Theatre at NIC’s Comox Valley campus.
