Information session teaches how to burn with less smoke

A free information session on wood-burning appliances is happening later this week.

With the arrival of cooler weather, more people are turning to wood heat for warmth and the Campbell River Fire Department is teaming with Guardian Services to provide the workshop.

It will focus both on wood-burning appliances and the benefits of new technology and more efficient stoves.

Fire chief Thomas Doherty said it’s designed to help clear the air in the city.

“Anything we can do to mitigate the smoky conditions that we do see is a positive step forward,” Doherty said.

The session is Thursday from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the No. 1 Fire Hall at 675-13th Ave.

A demonstration by wood energy technician Zigi Gadomski will show how new stoves provide a clean and efficient burn compared to older technology.

A draw will be held at the end of the seminar, where five lucky attendees will win a free WETT inspection of their wood-burning appliance from Guardian Inspection Services Ltd.

Also, you can bring in a sample of your firewood for a free moisture check to ensure that it’s dry enough for an efficient burn.
