Traffic lights at Maryland and Highway 19A now operational

Safety upgrades to the intersection at Maryland Road and Highway 19A are now finished.

Installation of the new traffic lights started on August 19th. The city has announced the work is finished and the lights are fully operational.

Crews worked at the site in stages so as not to disrupt traffic too much. Work was estimated to finish in eight weeks, but was completed a week ahead of schedule.

Two-way traffic was maintained as much as possible as work progressed.

The upgrades include:

  • Traffic controller and box
  • Bases and poles
  • Street name signs
  • Traffic signal heads
  • LED luminaires
  • Accessible pedestrian system, with countdown timers
  • Emergency vehicle pre-emption system

ICBC provided $29, 500 in funding assistance for the project.
