It’s the stuff that nightmares are made of, and it’s for a good cause.
The second annual Nightmare On Holm is back for another year and is scaring up donations for the local SPCA.
This year, Pennywise the Clown has taken up temporary residence in the house at 723 Holm Street.
The doors to the house opened yesterday and will be open tonight and tomorrow night.
From 6:00pm to 7:00pm, it will cater to young kids with no jump scares. From 7:30 to 9:00pm, prepare to get scared.
Adam Janveaux said he and his family have been putting together an elaborate Halloween display at their home across from SouthGate Middle School for the past five years.
Last year, they decided to open it to the public as a fundraiser for the SPCA, who they have supported for the past 16 years.
Janveaux said the display, which took three weeks to put together, is all in good fun.
“(We want people) just to have a good time. Laugh, be scared, and just enjoy it,” he said.
Janveaux said the evil clown from the movie It is this year’s guest of (dis)honour.
“Our No. 1 feature is Pennywise. Everybody’s right into It and Pennywise right now and we’ve got a whole bunch of goblins and ghouls in their right now.”
The family chose the SPCA as the charity of choice because they’ve been longtime animal advocates.
“We used to do justice for animals while my daughter was growing up,” Janveaux said. “We used to do gala dinners and auctions. This is our way to try to give back to the SPCA.”
This is one of a few haunted displays in the city as we get closer to Halloween.
Others include the Halloween Haunted House and Yard at 23 Engles Rd.
That’s open on Halloween night from 5:00pm to 11:00pm and is a fundraiser for Jonah and the Terry Fox Foundation.
And there’s one at 89 Lynnwood Rd. that’s open every night including Halloween from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Donations are appreciated but not required.
