Man charged in Gold River stabbing

The Nootka Sound RCMP says a man is in custody after a stabbing in Gold River.

It happened just after 4:00pm yesterday. Police received a call about a man who had been assault in his home.

When police arrived they found he had a serious stab wound. He was given First Aid while more medical help was called. The victim was able to identify his alleged assailant while he was being treated for his wound.

Officers used that information to track the suspect down and arrest him without incident. The victim’s injuries were so serious that the RCMP says he had to be taken from Gold River to a larger hospital.

“As the Nootka Sound RCMP Detachment Commander I would like to thank all emergency personnel who helped on this very serious incident, especially the BC Ambulance paramedics who assisted” said Sergeant Joshua Wiese “Their dedication, speed and actions may have prevented a tragedy.”

The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP has gotten in touch with the Vancouver Island District General Investigation service to get their help. The suspect remains in custody and has been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.
