Campbell River teachers' on the picket line

Teachers and unionized CUPE workers at local schools are on picket lines today in phase two of the teachers strike.

Timberline languages teacher Celine Ouellette says, they are feeling disgusted by the government.

Ouellette says they are feeling support from parents.

Campbell River schools are reopening Tuesday and will be open the rest of the week.

One of the big sticking points in the teachers’ rotating strikes and the government’s lockout is extra-curricular activities.

The teachers union has said they will not be able to coach sports or attend grad ceremonies because they’re only allowed in class 45 minutes before class starts and 45 minutes after it ends They also cite not being covered by general insurance through WorkSafeBC.
But Ministry of Education officials says that all activities covered before the lockout is still covered during the partial lockout.
