Campbell River RCMP offers tips after jump in bike thefts

Bicycle thefts are on the rise in Campbell River.

The RCMP says that there has been a substantial increase this year, with most of the stolen bikes not being properly secured.

RCMP spokesperson, Const.  Maury Tyre, said this makes them an easy grab for thieves.

The RCMP said a few easy steps can be taken to make your bike less appealing to thieves while improving the chances of getting it back:

• Lock up your bike with a quality lock;
• Take photos of your bike including an of its unique identifying features;
• Keep track of its serial number; and
• as an extra step, etch your driver’s license somewhere hidden on your bike where nobody is going to look
