School District 72 re-elects board chair and vice-chair

Campbell River’s School District 72 will not be seeing new seat assignments after its final board meeting of the year.

The school board named the chair and vice-chair for the period of Dec. 2019 to Nov. 30th, 2020 on Tuesday.

Chairperson Richard Franklin was re-elected by acclamation.

Following the vote, Franklin thanked his fellow board members for once again awarding him the position, adding succession planning is important.

“I wish to thank the board for their support,” Franklin says. “I am very happy to serve as your chair for one more year and will ask that trustees consider their candidacy for the chair next year.”

Trustee Daryl Hagen nominated Trustee Susan Wilson for the role of vice-chair, however, she declined the nomination due to other commitments.

Trustee Shannon Briggs nominated Trustee John Kerr for the role of vice-chair, which he accepted.

With no other nominations, Kerr was re-elected as vice-chair by acclamation.
