Former Tyee Plaza clock tower has a new home in Campbellton

The iconic clock tower that once soared above Campbell River’s Tyee Plaza now has a new home.

Prior to being taken down in 2016, the tower was a fixture of the community for nearly half a century.

Sitting at 49 feet high, it is set to be resurrected on Feb. 6th.

It will look over Econo Ezy Box Storage and the nearby Campbellton area.

Ted Arbour, head of the storage centre, says the idea came from senior staff member Grant Wallace.

“When he found out it was available for the taking back in 2016, he supervised the removal and has been supervising the rebuild since then,” says Arbour.

Though it is the same structure, the tower will look a little different than remembered.

“Fitting in with Campbellton’s new theme of punk art, there will be some punk at the base of the tower. This art, created on-site, will become its electrical room.”

The tower has been updated for the 21st-century as well, with three solar panels installed on top to provide power.

Arbour adds the overhaul will come with an extra perk for those with electric vehicles.

“It will provide the time, temperature, decor art and an electrical charging station all in one. This is truly a new beginning for an old friend of Campbell River. The tower previously stood for 45 plus years, let’s hope it stands for another 45 plus.”
