Campbell River’s Coldest Night of the Year to raise funds for Transition Society

There’s just over two weeks to go until the Coldest Night of the Year.

The Campbell River and North Island Transition Society is once again hosting the walk.

Event Director Diane Palmer says all proceeds raised will go back to the society.

“All of the programs and services we offer take a good amount of money to keep funded every year,” Palmer says. “We do have some funding, but we do have a shortfall every year in the services and programs that we provide. This is meant to be a fundraiser to keep all those things going.”

This is the third time the society is hosting the walk.

“We’re hoping to grow it again this year. Our goal is $35,000 and we’re hoping for more walkers and more teams. We’re hoping to build on it each and every year.”

Palmer says walkers can donate as much or as little as they would like, with a tax receipt given to those who donate $25 or more.

Those who donate over $150 will be given a new toque.

After 2019 saw 25 teams and roughly 130 walkers, the society is encouraging more people to come together and participate this year.

“We still need teams. People can sign-up on the website as a team if they want and then they can recruit their own walkers. We’ve got some prizes for who raises the most money and things like that,” Palmer adds.

If you don’t have a team and would like to join one, you can sign up under the Rose Harbour or Ann Elmore house teams.

You can register as an individual walker as well.

Participants can choose between a two or five kilometre walk through downtown Campbell River, starting at 5:00pm at the Navy League Hall on Feb. 22nd.

Registration kicks off at 4:00pm.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a nation-wide fundraiser, hosted by non-profit community groups in more than 100 locations.
