Strathcona financial officer awarded for professional achievements

A Strathcona Regional District employee is receiving some high praise.

Chief Financial Officer Myriah Foort was honoured with an Early Achievement Award by the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC).

The award recognizes CPAs who stand out early in their career through professional achievement and volunteer service.

“Myriah has worked hard to make a difference in both the CPA profession and her community, says CPABC President and CEO Lori Mathison. “She is an inspiration to other young professionals in the community. We are thrilled to recognize Myriah’s outstanding achievements.”

Foort is known for leading innovative initiatives, driving best practices, and striving for constant improvement.

After obtaining her designation in 2009, she began her accounting career in public practice with MNP LLP.

She then served as the CFO for the City of Campbell River.

Since she began working there, the district says Foort has improved the budget and year-end processes and has led to the completion of the organization’s first asset management plan.

Throughout the community, she’s served as treasurer for the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, captain of MNP’s Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life team, and was founding president of the Young Professionals of Campbell River.
