SD72 students to see two-week spring break in 2021

Campbell River students will be getting more time off next year.

At a Feb. 25th board meeting, School District 72 released its proposed school calendars for the next three years.

Starting in 2021, students will be given a two-week spring break instead of the usual one-week break.

Superintendent Jeremy Morrow worked through the calendar consultation process with the goal of giving families, staff and community agencies the chance to know their schedules well in advance.

The process began back in the fall with a survey that received over 400 responses from parents, staff, students and community members.

The proposed calendars all have school opening on the first Tuesday after Labour Day and six non-instructional days.

Both the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school calendars feature two Pro-D days and the 2022-2023 school calendar features one Pro-D day before schools open after Labour Day.

They also highlight shared professional development days with neighbouring school districts to allow for the possibility of shared development opportunities amongst staff.

The SD72 board passed a motion to make the calendars available for public feedback.

They can be viewed online at sd72.bc.ca and your feedback can be sent by email to [email protected].

The deadline to share your thoughts is Mar. 25th.
