Annual book sale returns to the Museum at Campbell River this weekend

The Museum at Campbell River is ready for its 15th annual book sale.

Book enthusiasts can restock their bookshelves after shopping through the museum’s 1200-square-foot exhibit space on Mar. 7th and 8th.

Coordinator Erika Anderson says all the books on sale were donated.

“We don’t carry books year to year, so they’re all brand new donations this year. People don’t need to worry about it being old things they’ve already seen. The generosity of this community has been amazing, I think we’ve gotten around 25,000 books donated.”

As the museum’s second-biggest fundraiser of the year, Anderson says it’s “a really big deal for us.”

“We usually have about 200 people that come through the doors when we open in the first 10 minutes, so it gets pretty crazy at the beginning.”

All funds raised will go towards the museum’s programs and exhibits.

“Last year, we made about $9,300. We’re really hoping we can hit $10,000 this year, that would be amazing.”

It will cost shoppers $20 to fill a bag with books, with most books costing $1 each and higher-end books priced individually.

While the museum has been preparing for the sale for the past few months, Anderson says most of the organizing and unpacking has occurred over the last two weeks.

“We’ve probably got about 20 or so active volunteers that have been coming in. Every day, I’ve got 10 to 12 people coming in and spending their whole day just sorting the books and getting it really organized and unpacking them.”

The sale runs from 10am until 5pm on Saturday and from noon until 4pm on Sunday.

“It really brings people together over books, words, literacy and literature which is so important to people’s lives. I think we’re so focused on screens in this day and age,” Anderson adds.
