Campbell River RCMP responds to 39 domestic violence calls in February

The Campbell River RCMP is sharing its monthly domestic violence report.

Police responded to 39 separate calls related to violence in relationships last month.

Another five reports were related to breaching bail.

Cst. Maury Tyre says domestic violence statistics in Campbell River are staying roughly the same year over year.

“We’re not seeing increases but we’re also not seeing decreases which is one of the concerning things.”

Tyre adds the detachment’s goal with the monthly report is to ramp up awareness and prevention in the community.

“What we’re really trying to push is a little bit more education and understanding of what domestic violence and domestic abuse is. So, hopefully people that are in these situations can start understanding and maybe if we can break some of the stigma from it, then people will be a little bit more willing to report and try to get some assistance.”

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, call the Campbell River RCMP at (250) 286-6221 or in an emergency call 911.
