Campbell River Rotary is receiving praise.
It hosted its 10th annual Rotary Honours Concert last Sunday at the Tidemark Theatre.
Organizer Susie Moscovich says it went “extremely well” and the feedback received has been nothing but positive.
“We had 13 acts and we had over 300 people. It was almost at capacity for the Tidemark. I’ve had just wonderful comments.”
The concert was put on to celebrate local youth bands, dancers, musicians, musical theatre performers and singers.
This year’s lineup included performances from Studio North Dance, Solstice Studio, Kathy Mascia School of Dance, Amy Lelliott, Dance Xtreme, RainCoast School of Musical Theatre, Kate Choi, Kristy Miller and more.
Moscovich says those who performed really are the “best of the best” and all have won awards of some sort.
Entry to the concert was free and the goal of it all was to give those in attendance a look into the depth and scope of the talent in town.
“We always bill it is as a gift to the community,” Moscovich says. “In 2010, Rotary added the fifth avenue of service to promote youth. This falls right into that category, promoting youth in an artsy way.”
She says preparations for next year’s concert will begin soon.
“I have to set it up, it’s a little bit tricky because in March all the competitions start provincially and federally. A lot of these kids are going to competitions somewhere else. You have to find a weekend where they can come and have all their dances honed and ready to go.”
Though a lot of work goes into organizing the concert, Moscovich adds it’s something she’s always loved being involved with.
“It’s just a wonderful feeling to the whole thing. It’s a real community event. It’s really special when I think about it, it has that feel to it. I can’t describe it.”
