Campbell River council is helping other environmental groups in taking a stand against Canadian Geese. Yes, that’s right…Canadian Geese.
Council has committed to spend up to 5-thousand dollars to track non-native Canada geese that are flocking to Campbell River and causing some property and environmental damage.
Councilor Charlie Cornfield says the problem is there’s a lot of birds that move in for moulting season.
Cornfield expands on the impact that elevated number has on the environment.
Cornfield maintains this is not the city’s project, and is actually spearheaded by the Campbell River Environmental Council.
The cost to implement a proposed goose banding program would be over 26-thousand dollars. It would involve capturing the geese in the summer when the birds have shed their feathers and can’t fly.
