Division of Family Practice working to provide accurate COVID-19 information

The Campbell River and District Division of Family Practice is keeping busy.

It’s working with Island Health and community partners, including long term care facilities, to make sure up to date and correct information is available to you.

“As you know, there are confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Vancouver Island,” the division says. “Currently, all of those identified cases are experiencing mild symptoms and being managed through self-isolation.”

It understands many are frustrated with the Provincial Health Officer and Island Health for not providing specific locations of confirmed cases.

“As Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has stated on several occasions, they will not be identifying the specific location of confirmed cases unless public health providers can be certain they have reached all those who need to be contacted.”

The division is stressing the importance of protecting the privacy of those infected.

It says you should also be aware that the risk of COVID-19 isn’t only in one place.

“It is in your community too and we need everyone to be taking measures to prevent transmission.”

Most medical clinics are in support of social distancing and accommodating those who are self-isolating by offering virtual care options for patients, while “others are limiting the number of patients entering the clinic at any given time.”

If you need to see your family doctor, a nurse practitioner or go to a walk-in clinic, you’re asked to call ahead.

“Hospitals have imposed visitor restrictions and other measures that are vital to the containment of the virus, the preparation for those who may need urgent care, and the health and safety of all,” the division adds.
