RCMP shutting down front counter to public in Campbell River

The Campbell River RCMP is closing its front counter to the public.

The RCMP calls it a health and safety precaution surrounding COVID-19. This means that no Police Information Checks will be processed, except for essential frontline service providers which includes health care workers and emergency service providers. The RCMP is reminding you that you can report minor crimes using the Online Crime Reporting tool.

You’re being asked to help keep all of the RCMP’s staff healthy by only going to the detachment if it’s an emergency and using the phone outside the front of the building. If you have things like a fever, coughing and difficulty breathing the police want you to stay away from the detachment completely.

The changes do not affect 9-1-1 service or calls to the Campbell River RCMP’s non-emergency line which is 250-286-6221. Both of those services continue to be offered 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

The closure comes into effect tomorrow.
