Campbell River School District approves school calendars for next three years

Campbell River’s School District 72 has rolled out its final school calendars for the next three years.

The school board approved the draft calendars at a March 31st meeting.

They all have school opening on the first Tuesday after Labour Day, six non-instructional days and two-week spring breaks.

Both the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school calendars feature two Pro-D days and the 2022-2023 school calendar features one Pro-D day prior to school opening after Labour Day.

They also have shared professional development days with neighbouring school districts to allow for possible shared development opportunities with staff.

“Before the beginning of the building of these proposed calendars, we received over 400 responses to feedback from our community around priorities that they had and would like to see reflected,” says Superintendent Jeremy Morrow.

The surveys found a two-week spring break, a three-year calendar cycle and the alignment with the Comox Valley School District calendar as the top priorities.

Morrow adds over the past month that the calendars were out for feedback, the district received 21 comments.

17 were favourable to a two-week spring break and four comments asked that the district stick with a one-week spring break.

If you’d like a copy of the final school calendars for the next three years, they’ll be available for download from the district’s website.
