Fresh buds and blossoms, warmer temperatures and chocolate bunnies usually mean time with extended family.
This year, the City of Campbell River is reminding you to celebrate with public health orders in mind.
“Easter symbolizes hope and renewal, and we urge everyone to show your love and community spirit this year by keeping celebrations small, contained to household members only,” says Mayor Andy Adams. “Please, with the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus, this is a time to avoid the typical Easter activities such as crowded church services, neighbourhood Easter egg hunts and extended family gatherings.”
He recognizes that this may be difficult, but stresses that it’s in everyone’s best interest to stay as healthy as possible.
To help you celebrate with care, the city recommends:
- Following all public health orders
- Staying home as much as possible
- Celebrating in person only with members of the same household
- Connecting with friends and extended family by phone or online
- Hosting egg hunts for kids in the house or backyard
- Maintaining the physical distance of at least two metres from people who are not members of your household if you must go out
Mayor Adams is also emphasizing the importance of donating to your local food bank, the Campbell River Community Foundation or other charities in town supporting families in need.
“We know this virus has created challenges for many people around the world, and right here at home. Beyond donations, the best way to help is choosing to celebrate with care, according to all public health guidelines. This is how we can all help protect our families, our medical professionals and those most vulnerable members in our community.”
