School District 72 continues to provide food service program to vulnerable students

Campbell River’s School District 72 is continuing to provide its food service program to students in need.

Though in-class instruction has been suspended indefinitely, 193 students are still receiving grocery packages.

“One of our concerns in the delay of a return to school is that there are a number of families whose students we serve with food programs in our schools,” says Superintendent Jeremy Morrow. “We have had staff working very hard to create a plan for continuity of some food services.”

Packages are put together by district staff on Wednesdays and then delivered directly to family homes by school bus drivers on Thursdays.

The groceries are purchased thanks to funding from the Ministry of Education’s CommunityLINK.

While supporting the academic achievement and social functioning of vulnerable students, CommunityLINK provides $53.2 million in funding to all 60 school districts across the province.
